Appointments represent an arrangement, meeting or engagement that you would like to track on your calendar at a spacific time during the day.

To add an appointment you can specify your appointment details along with a start and and time.

Events represent an an all day appointment that you would like to track on your calendar.

To add an event you can specify your event details and then check the all day check box.

Now your event will appear at the topmost all day section of your daily calendar view.
